History of Bureau
The Philatelic Bureau of Sri Lanka was established under the Department of Posts and Telecommunication on 1st of January 1967.In 1966 the work of Philatelic Bureau was conducted at the mail branch at General Post Office. In those days stamp designing and printing was done by the Department of Inland Revenue. So advertising local stamps, selling new stamps and sending Philatelic items as local and foreign standing orders tolocal and foreign customers was the duties of Philatelic Bureau.
1972 all the duties like stamp designing, printing and distributing was assigned to the Philatelic Bureau.
By this way, the Sri Lankan Philatelic Bureauproduced services locally and internationally to all philatelic customers.
The stamps issued by the Philatelic Bureau gives a Glimpse of the past and the present of this Serendipity of Land.
